I'm going to deck a colleague whilst reassuring everyone around me "don't worry, I'm just rallying against the whole PC nonsense", as I slap them repeatedly across the chops.

Then I will rock myself to sleep in a nice padded room all of my own.

What those who complain about PC need to do is to replace the 'PC' with the phrase 'not being an arsehole', to get the real context of what they're saying. For example:

Jeremy Clarkson never made racist comments, he just went against the whole not being an arsehole nonsense

"PC Gone Mad" is basically a right wing construct anyway, it doesn't really exist. It's little more than moaning that, shock horror, we're expected to be respectful to other people. How dare we not be able to talk about going to the p**i shop any more, or make fun of those poofters or not be able to lamp our colleages at work. It's all PC nonsense, let's rail against it by jokingly using racist terms at those dark skinned people in the street, making fun of anyone who looks the least bit gay and lamp the Paddy at work, that'll teach the PC brigade a lesson.

slope (n.) informal offensive
a person from Asia, especially Vietnam or elsewhere in Southeast Asia.

That was blown right out of proportion. They were talking about the slope of the bridge.
Don't forget the infamous eenie, meenie, minie, moe incident...

He didn't say the 'N' word and it wasn't broadcast exactly because Jeremy Clarkson thought it sounded like he had mumbled it.

No, it's clear from context that they were not. Who actually says "it's got a slope on it" to describe something at an angle? You'd say "it slopes."

The "joke" is then hammered home in typical Top Gear fashion by Hammond's "clarification" that the bridge is higher on one side (which it isn't).

Some people here are itching for the days when Curry And Chips & Love Thy Neighbour was prime time entertainment.

The fact that "slope" isn't a particularly well known term is probably the point as well- they'd hoped it would slip under the radar. Which it obviously didn't.

I've always thought that the eenie meenie... incident wouldn't have leaked had Clarkson been more popular with the crew.

Yeah! Down with political correctness!! It's bloody ridiculous you can't walk down your high street shouting racial abuse or writing it on someone's car in excrement. It's PC gone mad. It's an outrage that you can't slap your female colleague's arse with out a sexual harassment tribunal. It's PC gone mad thanks to those bloody feminazis. You can't even go out in a white hood brandishing a burning cross or some liberal lefty will call you a racist - and some of best friends are black. IT'S PC GONE MAD!!!!!

And I agree people are just so sensitive these days - it was much better before political correctness when people from ethnic minorities lived in fear of being attacked, when National Front thugs would regularly parade up and down British cities, when women feared reporting domestic abuse and being sexually assaulted and when gay people were beaten up by skinheads. Thank god that these days political correctness has gone mad and has made all of those issues go away - Muslims aren't afraid of being attacked, EDL thugs don't parade in our cities, all cases of domestic abuse and sexual assault are reported and gay people never face discrimination. Political correctness has definitely gone mad - we now live in an era where the white British, middle class, protestant, straight, able bodied man is the most disadvantaged member of our society.

All these stories of gender pay gaps, racial abuse daubed on mosques and women, minorities, LGBT, disabled people and the state educated being underrepresented in our media and political institutions - that's all just part of a liberal-leftie-Guardian reader-BBC-EU-communist conspiracy to allow Black Muslim lesbians to run the country. Racist, sexist, homophobic, disablist, xenophobic behaviour is in no way legitimised by one of the BBC and television's top paid stars spouting out sh*t he probably doesn't even really believe. And yes Jeremy Clarkson is really rallying against the PC establishment - he, who lives in the same village as David Cameron and who is privately educated and is known to socialise with the Murdoch's and some cabinet politicians, is in no way part of the establishment. He's not some kind of warrior rebelling against some mythical PC establishment - he's a privileged white man who is paid by other privileged white men to do a job largely based on his penchant for saying deliberately offensive things. That's it.

If you want to know the truth about political correctness - I recommend you try reading this book. You'll find pretty quickly that stories like Winterval are bendings of the truth, Manchester is not being renamed personchester (which would be ironic given the Man- part of the name actually means breast) and renaming things like chairman as chair is more to do with dealing with the antiquated and inbuilt misogyny that pervades the English language than some kind of feminist conspiracy.

I would. I don't think it's as unusual as you think.

It looks higher on one side to me.

The fact that you're now completely overlooking that joke - be it malicious or mere wordplay - is enough to say you are in no position to judge Clarkson's intentions. The juxtaposition of that shot and timing of the lines is enough proof in my opinion that it was intended as a gag. If your position is "well there was a slope so they had to mention it" then you're talking out of your backside.

Now that he's either been banned or deleted himself. can we put this topic to an end until the new Top Gear is actually on air?
